Abstract Corporate world, today is littered with Multinationals and local giants who would do anything for a profit. They are either unfriendly to the environment, use animal and human testing or indulge in hoarding, corporate fraud and trading counterfeit items. The list of ways they could harm or cause civilians discomfort is endless. Wal-Mart, the leading retail company in the world has become a target to public resentment and wariness on part of small businesses. The paper supposes a scenario where Wal-Mart is opening a new store in a small town. It will predict the reactions of the residents and the small business owners and prepare a counter argument. Introduction Wal-Mart is a US based Multinational and owner of the largest chain of national, international retail stores. In 2002 it became the number one company in Forbes 500 Index (Hayden. P, Mac Mohan. K, Lee. S. Pereira. M, 2002). Today, it is the largest retail corporation and enjoys relative monopoly in the sector. Its growth and success are due to its competitive corporate strategy, unparalleled quality lowest costs, brand power and total focus on customer satisfaction (people.ucsc.edu, n.d). Then how did such a firm taint its reputation? Analysis In a poll held by CNN, majority of the respondents agreed that Wal-Mart had an adverse effect on its surroundings and resident community.
